Proven. Homegrown. Leader.

Allen knows the people must always be at the center of public service. America and its promise of equality and opportunity are always worth fighting for. Raised in Chapel Hill, Allen attended public schools and is a proud son and nephew of public school teachers. He graduated from Dartmouth College and came back home. He went to school again, getting a law degree from UNC.

He later worked in North Carolina's Department of Justice as an attorney, providing support for the Attorney General’s initiatives responding to the opioid abuse crisis. He later worked at the UNC Center for Civil Rights as an attorney and Deputy Director, advocating for communities fighting for their public schools and for clean water and air.

On the Chapel Hill Town Council, Allen fought for fair treatment of vulnerable residents and families in housing and criminal justice. He also supported local businesses and facilitated opportunities for young people to get apprenticeships and to get civically engaged.

Outside of work, Allen has enjoyed mentoring and coaching high school football. Most of all, he loves spending time with his wife Sarah, their three children and their cat.
